Charleston Democrats Release Voter Guide for 2023 Charleston Municipal Runoffs

City of Charleston Nov. 21 Runoff Guide!

Several cities & towns across Charleston County held municipal elections last week, but the City of Charleston is the only one where several races have not yet been determined.  There will be two runoffs on November 21, for Charleston's Mayor and City Council District 9.  Here's what Charleston Democrats should know about each:

Who can vote?

Every City of Charleston voter who was registered in time to vote in last week's general election (whether or not you voted last week, you are still eligible to vote in the runoff) can vote for Mayor!  If you are in City Council District 9 (parts of West Ashley - map here), you will also be able to vote for City Council.

Election Day Voting:

Election Day for the runoffs is Tuesday Nov. 21 and polls will be open from 7am-7pm.  Vote at your regular polling location (confirm it here).

Early Voting:

Early voting for the runoffs will be available this coming Wednesday - Friday (Nov. 15-17) from 8:30am-5:00pm at the Charleston County Election Office (4340 Corporate Rd. North Charleston, SC 29405).

Who do I vote for?

Although these are non-partisan elections, we feel it's important for you to know that most local Democrats are supporting John Tecklenburg for Mayor and William Tinkler for Council District 9.  Both of their opponents have been recommended by the extremist conservative group "Moms for Liberty," and the other candidate for Mayor was recently a Republican elected official.

How do I get involved?

If you'd like to volunteer for either Tecklenburg's or Tinkler's campaign, you can do so directly through their campaign websites:

How do I find more information about voting?

On www.SCvotes.org you can confirm your registration, polling location, view your sample ballot, and much more! Reach out to hello@charlestondemocrats.com and we'll direct you to more resources!
